CHICKEN 🪜 DANCE

The Chicken Dance, a novelty polka tune and dance that’s become synonymous with Oktoberfest since its composition by Swiss accordionist Werner Thomas, was originally called Der Ententanz or “The Duck Dance.” It only came to be in the chicken dance in 1981 when organizers of an Oktoberfest in Tulsa, Oklahoma wanted to engage the crowd, but only had access to a chicken costume.

Theme: Oktoberfest

Despite its name, Oktoberfest, a two-week-long autumnal celebration of Bavarian cuisine, beer, and culture, takes place mostly in September. It starts on the first Saturday on or after September 15th and runs to the first Sunday in October.
